It's The Real New Flow 935
FLOW 93.5, the only existing commercial radio with an Urban music format was recently sold to CTVglobalmedia. Now, as they make their move to a new location, there have also been major moves within the company from sales to on air to a possible name change.
If they're gonna change the name, they should have called it Wheel 93.5 with that sweeping end of an era.
Just because the morning show was cancelled on Flow, doesn't mean Jem and myself didn't believe in the importance of what it meant to the city. Almost as dear to heart as the demises of CKLN, this station many fought to make a reality to reflect our diverse city will see some devastating changes.
Of course the debate was always that Flow didn't rep the black community. But, if you thought they didn't rep it before then how about stations now with even less reason to "rep" the community. Where you gonna go for your black artists, black promotions, clubs, events etc now?
I just got off the phone with some of the staff that had their final meeting that determined their future with Flow. It's a very emotional time for them and we at strizzzy.com want to send our comforting support to those who went in hard to maintain while there.
The only on air personalities to remain with the station going forward are Melanie, Jenni, Scott Boogie and Starting From Scratch.
J-Wyze, Devo Brown, Chris Mikes, Jus Red, Dr. Jay, Spex, OTA Live, The Real Frequency, all mix show DJ's. Even sales staff, promotions, production crew and program director Wayne Williams will no longer be part of this journey. Though they are all soldiers who were here before Flow and I know are built to move on without it.
As for the actual journey. The rumour has it that not only is Flow changing the studios to the Queen st location, but the format and the name as well. Possible top 40 sound and the name of Bounce 93.5 has been floating around as a new moniker. Did I mention Mastermind (formaly PD of the Vibe in Calgary) is in town?
So as the team that started and ended this amazing journey takes one last drink, know that I salute you all... Proud to say I was once there.
